4th March 2022 | LBSG Chair | Leave a comment To celebrate World Book Day’s 25th anniversary, Royal Mail has unveiled four special postboxes across the UK, celebrating authors and illustrators from all four UK nations. The postboxes have their own unique design, celebrating the work of the authors and illustrators featured on each postbox. The postboxes are adorned in lines from books by authors including Greg James and Chris Smith, Nadiya Hussain, Dara McAnulty and Martin Waddell, with artwork from the likes of Harry Potter cover illustrator, Jonny Duddle. The postboxes are located across the UK in Luton (England), Nannerch, Flintshire (Wales), Dundee (Scotland) and Castlewellan (Northern Ireland), close to places of significance to either the writers or their work. Luton, George Street Nannerch, Village Road Dundee, City Square Castlewellan, Main Street The specific locations and types of postbox are: Luton (George Street, type C pillar box by Machan Engineering)Nannerch (Village Road, type K pillar box by Carronade Engineering)Dundee (City Square, type A pillar box by McDowall.Steven & Co)Castlewellan (Main Street, type A pillar box by Machan Engineering) In Luton, the postbox features images and quotes from Greg James and Chris Smith, previous £1 book World Book Day authors, known for their Kid Normal book series and The Great Dream Robbery; Nadiya Hussain, chef, TV presenter and author of several books including World Book Day’s 2018 £1 book Bake Me a Story; and this year’s World Book Day £1 book author Sharna Jackson and illustrator Wumi Olaosebikan of Peak Peril. In Nannerch, the postbox features images and quotes from Jonny Duddle, illustrator for some of the Harry Potter book covers and author of World Book Day’s 2021 £1 book Gigantosaurus: Dino Spot; and Lesley Parr, author of books including The Valley of Lost Secrets and When the War Came Home. In Dundee, the postbox features images and quotes from World Book Day author for 2018 Pamela Butchart, with The Baby Brother from Outer Space!; author Lari Don and illustrator Eilidh Muldoon of Fierce, Fearless and Free: Girls in myths and legends from around the world and finally, Michelle Sloan, a children’s writer of books including Greyfriars Bobby: A Puppy’s Tale. In Castlewellan, the postbox features images and quotes from teenage author, Dara McAnulty and his book Wild Child: A Journey Through Nature and Diary of a Young Naturalist; Martin Waddell, writer of children’s books including Owl Babies and Little Bear series; Sophie Kirtley, children’s author of books including The Wild Way Home; and Kelly McCaughrain, young adult author of books including Flying Tips for Flightless Birds.
