This postbox-themed stamp set from 2009 shows a set of four postboxes across different eras. A George V wall box, an Edward VII Ludlow wall box, a VR Hovis, and an Elizabeth II wall box. And up in the top-right corner, the earliest surviving postal slot from Wakefield, pre-dating postboxes.

This George VI type A pillar box overlooks the pie This George VI type A pillar box overlooks the pier at the Welsh seaside town of Aberystwyth. Did you know that 'Aberystwyth' means 'the mouth of the Ystwyth'? That's one of the two rivers that runs through the town, along with the Rheidol. 'Aber' is an old Celtic word, so it's also found in Scotland with the same meaning (see - Aberdeen).

This postbox is identical to the other George VI type As made during his reign, manufactured by McDowall Steven & Co in Falkirk, and dates 1936-1952.

Many thanks to member Maria for this photo

Edward VIII reigned less than a year before abdica Edward VIII reigned less than a year before abdicating, but that still gave the Post Office time to produce 271 postboxes. His abdication prompted a number of these to be uninstalled, though they would be used later on where there was a need, and we know most of the pillar boxes produced are still in use, though not always in their original locations.

This particular Edward VIII is at the Tobermory Ferry Terminal, so most visitors to the island will pass it by, and perhaps pop a postcard inside. How many of them know they're using such a special postbox? Thanks to member Bob for the photo.

Not only does this postbox have a spectacular view Not only does this postbox have a spectacular view, but it also carries a special stamps plaque for the original Eddystone Lighthouse. The road sign also wanted in on the action! It was a lovely sunny day when member David visited, and if you're passing by this summer then hopefully it will be for you too.

How's your summer holidays going? Perhaps, like se How's your summer holidays going? Perhaps, like several of our members, you've visited the Isle of Wight? It's a bit of a 'Mecca' for postbox fans, with the Isle of Wight Postal Museum well worth a visit.

This modern lamp box on the island isn't anything special, being one of thousands across the UK installed since 2010, but it has a lovely view over Freshwater Bay. Unlike its ancestors, it probably won't see many postcards or letters, so if you visit make sure to give it some post to keep it busy!

We're sharing our favourite seaside postboxes this month, starting with this sandy Type B pillar box in Boscombe. It was made by Carron Company between 1957 and 1980, and looks absolutely beautiful! Many thanks to member Ruth for the picture.
