Situated in the grounds of an 16th century castle, St Fagan's museum explores the history of Wales through the lives of its people, from the ancient to the modern. Amongst the free museum's outdoor attractions is the Blaen-waun Post Office, originally constructed in 1936, and here with a George V 'hovis' lamp box carefully installed in the wall.

Once a year, this very special private museum run by LBSG member Steve Knight is opened to the general public. His collection - the second-largest private collection of postboxes in the UK - covers almost the entire span of British postbox history. Notable among them is this excellently-preserved First National Standard pillar box. Watch his website closely for when the 2026 open day will be, as it is not to be missed by postbox fans!

Scotland's premiere museum covers every topic you can think of - literature, natural history, art, culture, and manufacturing. In their communications exhibit, on loan from the Postal Museum, is this absolute beauty - a 'Suttie' postbox manufactured by Greenock blacksmith Thomas Suttie in 1856. Sutties may well have been installed across Scotland, but the only ones we know of today are in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Dec 9: Crich Tramway Village Fans of vintage tran Dec 9: Crich Tramway Village

Fans of vintage transport will adore this open-air museum in the East Midlands. Trams were once commonplace in every town and city, but many were replaced by cars and busses. Today Crich keeps that heritage alive. It's also home to these lovely historic postboxes - an original Penfold that's still in use, and a Victorian wall box from the late 19th Century.

Dec 8: Bath Postal Museum Sadly, not all museums Dec 8: Bath Postal Museum

Sadly, not all museums are destined to be with us forever. Bath Postal Museum was a fantastic home for lovers of postal paraphernalia, particularly being situated in the building where the first recorded Penny Black was posted in 1840, It had to close its doors in September 2023, and much of its collection was auctioned off - some ended up with LBSG members! The 'wagon top' lamp box pictured here was just one of its many postboxes on display.
